This “one of a kind” music program has traveled around the world performing in Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, England, Denmark, Sweden, Scotland , Canada, China, Taiwan, Croatia, Slovenia, and South Africa.. They have performed at The Sydney Opera House twice, Westminster Hall, Disneyland Paris and California, the  Hollywood  Christmas Parade, California State Music Educators  Conference,  as well as numerous  television appearances. They are the first band in the Coachella valley to have won GRAMMY® Signature Schools Community Award, a program recognizing top U.S. public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to music education in 2015. They are the first and featured band at the newly created Palm Springs ComicCom and will be continuing that role well into the future.  In November they hosted a band from Slovenia, a return visit from a group they had performed with in 2016 in Ljubljana making lifelong friends. In January they performed with Elvis Tribute artist Tim Welch at “The Show” playing a ninety minute high energy professional show. In 2017 the band was just honored with the SupportMusic Merit Award from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Palm Springs High joins 92 schools across the country in receiving the prestigious award in 2017. This December, the Spirit of the Sands will be hosting the World Association of Marching Show Band World Championships, the first time it is being held in the United States.  In 2018, the Spirit of theSands  will be appearing in London England performing for the New Year’s Parade and concert Festival. There are several music ensembles that make up the “Spirit of the Sands”:

The Spirit of the Sands Marching Band is a high energy full marching unit with more than one hundred and eighty members. From parades to the Football Stadium, from conventions to the London New Year's Parade in England, this group always puts on a show that entertains and keeps everyone in the action

The Spirit of the Sands Mini Marching Band is the portable, compressed version of the Marching Band. Comprised of three dozen performers, this band has performed at countless parties, Star Dedications, conventions, charity functions, on television shows and for numerous celebrities and dignitaries including President Bush, President Ford, Dick Van Dyke, Merv Griffin, Lou Rawls, Barbara Sinatra, Elizabeth Dole, Nancy Sinatra, Monty Hall, General Richard Meyers, Leslie Nielsen, Ben Stein, Smoky Robinson and many more...

The Spirit of the Sands Symphonic Band represents the wonderful tradition of wind music. The ensemble performs traditional wind literature in addition to well known musical favorites. Selected to perform at the 2005 State Music Educators Conference (CMEA), the band has also performed live in front of a crowd exceeding 20,000 in Italy, performed twice on stage at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, has performed at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Westminster Hall in London, the Edinburgh Trade Center in Scotland, and at home performs for numerous Veteran's Memorials and ceremonies, concerts, and charity events.

The  Spirit of the Sands Jazz Band has performed throughout Southern California playing at Charitable Events, private parties, conventions, conferences, Big Band dances, and the NAMM music trade show  in Anaheim. They were the opening act for Barry Manilow and Suzanne Somers, and have performed with Max Weinberg, Glenn Miller Band, Stan Kenton Band, the Count Basie Band in November of 2016 were in a film with Chris Botti, performed at the Children’s Palace in China.

The Spirit of the Sands Drum Line is a high energy drum line featuring players who focus on percussion technique and performance. Members who have past musical experience as well as beginners are welcome.

The Spirit of the Sands Visual Corps combines elements of dance, flags, baton, props, and theater to create a visual representation of the music performed by the music ensembles. The Visual Corps travel and perform with the music ensembles in addition to preparing their own special interpretation of music for competition and concerts. Although Dance, Flag, gymnastics, and/or baton experience is preferred, we will help train students to be part of this integral part of the Spirit of the Sands.

The Spirit of the Sands Musical Pit Orchestras are comprised of instrumental and Visual Corps music students. They provide the musical accompaniment for the combined productions produced by the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Since 1995 several musicals have been performed including: Westside Story, The Wiz, A Chorus Line, Bye, Bye Birdie, Oliver, Evita, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, The King and I, and Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, and Annie.
